KITECHICKS, also known as KITECHIX, has been uniting women in kitesurfing since 2001, and this year we proudly mark our 25th anniversary! 🎉
Over the past 25 years, KITECHICKS has hosted more than 70 kitesurfing events that have connected over 2,500 female kiteboarders from around the globe. What began as a small initiative in the Netherlands has blossomed into an international community centered on progression, friendship, travel, and a shared passion for wind and water.
Created by women, for women.
In 2001, female kiteboarder Suzette often found herself as the only woman on the kite beaches in the Netherlands. To encourage more women in kitesurfing, she started organizing events and lessons through her kite school, Windtown, situated right on a Dutch kitesurf beach.
Each year, the renowned “Windtown KITECHICKS Weekends” brought women together for beginner lessons, advanced clinics, accommodation, beach BBQs, parties, and unforgettable sessions on the water. These weekends quickly gained a reputation not just for learning and progression, but also for fostering a unique atmosphere, friendships, and fun among women who share a love for the sport.
As Windtown expanded internationally, new destinations in Brazil and South Africa, both featuring world-class kite spots, were added. Since 2006, KITECHICKS events have welcomed female riders from across the globe, allowing them to experience kitesurfing, travel, and adventure together.
