| The
Kite Chicks Weekend in Naxos, Mikri Vigla was hold the
17th and 18th of June. Fantastic blue sky, turquoise
blue water and wind blowing 25 – 40 knots. 15
girls aged between 15 and 40 from Sweden, Italy, Austria,
Germany, France, Poland and Greece were having a ball:
Free lessons on land, first bodydragging and two competitions
where the first 3 girls could win Kite Chicks Fashion
and cups sponsored by Mikri Vigla Watersports, in the
evenings dinner in Naxos and for those who still weren’t
tired enough dancing until dawn.
“First of all I didn’t even know that
a person like you existed – traveling around and
spreading kiteboarding amongst girls. It reminds me
of a missioner”.
All girls were beginners but totally convinced that
they want to get into kiteboarding. The first day started
at 11 am with the introduction of the brand and the
Kite Chicks Weeks concept. Afterwards the free lessons
started: introduction of the sport and – very
important – all about safety, and then finally
flying stunt kites on land. It didn’t take more
than an hour and the first girls were seen in the water,
body dragging along the beach. They loved it.
“You need a believer in order to believe.
When we sat down and you were talking I realized that
there is a target in your head – a mission. I
was wondering what triggered this?”
After a Kite Demo by Petra and special guest “Xaviera”
you almost couldn’t hold back the girls to get
into the water again. And so we did. The first part
of the “Win Kite Chicks Fashion” competition
was hold in the pool and the winner was who would manage
to get up on the board. 6 strong guys were pulling on
a rope on the other side of the pool and running as
fast as they could: heavy work for the guys, lots of
fun for the girls. That’s how we like it. The
winner was Clio from Greece, wakeboarding experience
helped her getting up and riding through the pool. After
the happy Kite Chicks hour at the pool bar everybody
got ready to go into town. We had dinner at Gira Sole
and were dancing in Prime and Ocean – some until
dawn others went home to get ready for the next day.
“Kiteboarding is such a manly sport. We need
something like Kite Chicks. Girls can really kitesurf
and do all this together. It’s like a society”.
Sunday started with body dragging, followed by another
demo, this time on land: The Kite Chicks Fashion. In
the afternoon the girls had to get ready for the second
part of the competition: Speed body dragging. It was
another windy day so the task was not that easy. All
girls managed to reach the goal though and with smiling
faces we went on to the award ceremony. 3rd place went
to Stefania from Italy, second to 15-year-old Nina from
France and the winner was Clio from Greece. For dinner
we went to a typical Greek restaurant at Gorgnona in
Agia Anna, one of the best places on the island to watch
the sunset, drink ouzo and eat seafood. The weekend
found it’s end in the early morning hours when
we left Prime in Naxos after having been dancing another
night.
“The kitesurf community seems to me to become
something like Woodstock was, there is so much electricity
in it”.
The weekend was a big success for all of us: the girls,
the school Mikri Vigla Watersports and the organizers
Xavier from the GWA and Petra from Kite Chicks.
